The Scout Symposium

This next Symposium will be a very special one as it follows a worldwide health crisis that required us to cancel all our in-person activities and “re-start” with new health and safety measures. We look forward with confidence to this opportunity to provide International Commissioners and Senior Leadership the space to share their own views and dreams, to shape the plan for Scouting in Europe through the next triennium. The 8th European Scout Symposium is built on the lessons learnt from previous events and will be built to meet the needs of a post pandemic Europe. This may include the need for the option of hosting a blended (in person and online) event and it may be necessary to entirely transfer to an online event.

It is expected that the outcomes of the European Scout Symposium will constitute key elements in the development of the European Scout Plan 2022 which will be endorsed by the 24th European Scout Conference in The Netherlands.

Aims

The Symposium aims to involve member organisations, through their key decision makers, to prepare an overview of the strategic direction for the European Scout Region for the period 2022 and beyond and to discuss other matters of concern to the Region.

During the Symposium the NSOs/NSAs should set the scene for a new Regional Scout Plan by

  • consulting NSOs/NSAs on suggested draft plan and contributing to it’s further development,
  • considering innovations in methodology,
  • allowing space for linking the world strategy to the needs of our Region.

Participants’ Profile

The target group of the Symposium are key decision makers: Chief Volunteers, International Commissioners, Chief Executives or equivalent position holders.

Languages

The main working language at the Symposium will be English with simultaneous interpretation to French in plenary sessions. Working groups of different languages can and will be established to maximise the debate in small groups.

The programme of the 8th European Scout Symposium starts on Friday, 18th March 2022 and will end on Sunday, 20th March 2022.
